Old-School Camper Vans - What Do They Teach Us?

We figured out that it’s hard to find a better guru than the old-school camper van itself. So, what have we learned from old-school campervans over all these years?
Slow down
Nowadays, the system has managed to convince us that the most important things are growth, work, and productivity. Consequently, we’re all speeding up, racing toward… where? While we’re racing toward the end, life is passing us by. We focus on our goals, and when we achieve them, we simply find new ones. Never happy, never 100% satisfied.
When you sit in an old VW bus, you’re forced to slow down, take regional roads, and cruise around 90 km per hour. It feels strange at first, but as you get used to it, tension and stress start to slip away. You begin to enjoy the slower tempo—that’s what we all deserve. You finally have time to observe your surroundings, wave to people, pick up hitchhikers, and socialize.
You’re also finally able to feel destinations, not only see them as you first planned.
Detailed plans are useless
John Lennon once said:
Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans.
Life is not a rationally planned schedule; it’s an organic process, full of unexpected, beautiful, and not-so-beautiful events. The more precisely you plan, the more likely things won’t go as planned. And when they don’t, frustration, panic, and anger follow.
When renting an old-school camper van, you have to realize that the chances of something going off-plan are higher than when renting a new one. When something breaks down, we’re here to find the best solution for you. In the meantime, go for lunch, meet people, enjoy the moment, and step outside your comfort zone. Our best road-trip moments have always happened when the van broke down. From tears when people fixed it without charging a single euro, to invitations into their homes and homemade local food prepared by the mechanic’s wife while we waited—these experiences restored our faith in humanity and made us better people too.
Respect things: repair, don’t throw away
Isn’t it amazing that you can rent a 40-year-old bus and drive it all the way to Istanbul? If we’re gentle with things and not too spoiled by luxury, we can repair rather than discard them. Our vans hold countless happy moments captured in their seats, doors, and windows, bringing you joy from the first second you sit inside. If we don’t stop buying things without reason, we’ll exhaust the planet’s natural resources in record time. And then what? Move to Mars?
This project is the best thing that’s ever happened to us, and we love to see the effect it has on you when you return from a trip. We promise to do our best to keep you happy and your trip running smoothly. If you resonate with what we’ve shared in this article, then a road trip with an old-school bus is something you’ll absolutely love in every way.
Hugs!
