Durmitor National Park

  • A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Durmitor National Park is a must-visit for adventurers. Home to the stunning Tara River Canyon, Europe’s deepest, and 18 glacial lakes known as “mountain eyes,” it’s a paradise for hikers, climbers, and nature enthusiasts. Park your campervan near Black Lake and explore trails that lead to breathtaking vistas. Don’t miss the Durmitor Ring for a panoramic road trip experience or try rafting on the Tara River for an adrenaline rush.

Biogradska Gora National Park

  • Nestled in the Bjelasica mountains, Biogradska Gora is one of Europe’s last primeval forests. At its heart is Biograd Lake, surrounded by towering trees and peaceful hiking paths. Enjoy camping by the lake or explore the park’s other glacial lakes and peaks. A panoramic drive through this lush park is an experience of serenity, while nearby eco katuns offer a glimpse of traditional Montenegrin life.

Lovćen National Park

  • Lovćen is where natural beauty meets cultural heritage. Drive to the park’s iconic Njegoš Mausoleum, perched atop Mount Lovćen, for sweeping views of the Adriatic coast and Montenegro’s interior. The park offers scenic drives, hiking trails, and a connection to Montenegro’s deep-rooted history. Camp nearby and enjoy the unique mix of landscapes and traditions.

Skadar Lake National Park

  • As the largest lake in the Balkans, Skadar Lake is a haven for birdwatchers and lovers of tranquil waterscapes. Park your campervan by the lake and enjoy boat tours, kayaking, or exploring the quaint villages dotting its shores. The Crnojević River, with its famous horseshoe bend, offers one of Montenegro’s most picturesque views.

Prokletije National Park

It features jagged peaks, glacial lakes, and deep valleys. Camping near the park lets you access trails with stunning alpine vistas. This park is ideal for serious hikers and climbers.

Montenegro’s Coastline, Mountains, Rivers and Lakes

The Mountains of Montenegro

Montenegro's mountains are among the most stunning and diverse in Europe, offering a mix of rugged peaks, glacial lakes, and pristine wilderness. Highlights include Durmitor, with its dramatic Tara Canyon and glacial lakes, and Prokletije, known as the "Accursed Mountains" for its rugged, remote beauty. Both regions are perfect for experienced hikers and climbers seeking challenging trails and breath-taking views.

The Bjelasica range, home to Biogradska Gora National Park, features gentler landscapes ideal for family-friendly hikes and camping. For panoramic drives and shorter hikes, Lovćen Mountain combines cultural and natural experiences, including the iconic Njegoš Mausoleum.

The country is a paradise for hikers, with well-marked trails like the Via Dinarica and access to unique landscapes ranging from alpine meadows to dense primeval forests. Whether you're an adventure seeker or a nature lover, Montenegro's mountains offer a perfect escape into the wild.

Rivers and Lakes

Montenegro's rivers and lakes are a blend of natural beauty and ecological importance, offering stunning scenery and countless opportunities for outdoor adventures. The Tara River, often called the “tear of Europe” for its pristine waters, is a highlight. It carves through the Tara Canyon, the deepest in Europe, and is renowned for its thrilling rafting opportunities and breathtaking views.

The Lakes of Montenegro are equally captivating, with Skadar Lake standing out as the largest in the Balkans and a birdwatcher’s paradise. The lake’s tranquil waters are surrounded by charming villages, floating meadows of lilies, and rich biodiversity. Smaller lakes, like the Black Lake (Crno Jezero) in Durmitor National Park and Lake Biograd in Biogradska Gora National Park, provide serene spots for kayaking, fishing, and hiking.

Camping by Montenegro’s rivers and lakes is a dream for nature enthusiasts, with numerous campgrounds offering lakeside views and access to hiking trails. Many rivers, such as the Morača, are bordered by picturesque valleys and cliffs, making them perfect for road trips and exploration.
