Exploring Croatia in a VW Camper Van with Balkan Campers

Our decision to travel Croatia with Balkan Campers was one of the best decisions we made, and the experience was made even better by our charming companion: Jerry, a spacious and comfortable VW camper van. From the moment we set off, we knew that traveling in a camper van would offer us an unparalleled sense of freedom and adventure. The unique character of Jerry added an extra layer of joy to our journey, and we quickly grew fond of the van’s quirky personality.

Senj: Our First Overnight Spot

One of our first stops was Senj, a beautiful coastal town in Croatia that became our home for the night. The picturesque views of the town, with its white stone buildings and the surrounding rugged landscape, made for the perfect start to our road trip. Sleeping in Jerry, with the sound of the waves in the background, was an experience like no other—peaceful and intimate, allowing us to reconnect with nature in a way we hadn’t anticipated. The freedom of waking up in such a beautiful location was simply priceless.

Scenic Coastal Drives

As we made our way down the Croatian coast, we were constantly in awe of the breathtaking scenery. The winding coastal roads offered stunning vistas at every turn, with the deep turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea lapping against the shore, while dramatic mountains loomed in the background. Each day brought new landscapes, and we found ourselves constantly stopping to take in the view and snap photos of the rugged cliffs and idyllic beaches.

The drive itself was an adventure—winding roads, tunnels, and coastal cliffs made the journey both thrilling and scenic. With Jerry’s comfortable interior, we were able to take in all of the sights while still feeling at ease. There was a certain magic in simply driving along the coastline, with the sea breeze coming through the windows and the sun shining down on the glistening waters.

Hvar Island: A Historical and Scenic Gem

One of the highlights of our trip was a ferry ride from Split to Hvar Island, where we explored the historic Hvar Town. The town, with its charming narrow streets, medieval architecture, and the impressive Hvar Fortress, offered us a glimpse into Croatia’s rich history. From the top of the fortress, the panoramic views of the surrounding islands and crystal-clear waters were absolutely mesmerizing.

We also took time to visit several secluded beaches on Hvar Island, many of which could only be reached by foot or by boat. The water was incredibly clear, and we spent hours snorkeling, exploring underwater caves, and enjoying the peacefulness of these hidden gems. Every beach we visited felt like a private paradise, offering an escape from the crowds and a chance to connect with the natural beauty of the island.

The Joy of Camper Van Life

One of the things we loved most about traveling in a camper van was the freedom it gave us. Each day felt like a new adventure, with the flexibility to choose our route and explore at our own pace. We were able to sleep in different locations every night, waking up to the sound of the ocean one day and the rustling of trees the next. The simplicity of van life allowed us to slow down and truly appreciate the beauty around us.

We also appreciated how Balkan Campers made the whole experience seamless. The van was equipped with everything we needed, from a fully functional kitchen to a comfortable bed. Whether we were making a cup of coffee in the morning or cooking dinner under the stars, Jerry had everything we needed to make the most of our time on the road. The van was also spacious enough to give us a sense of home, even as we traveled through some of Croatia’s most stunning landscapes.

As our trip came to an end, we reflected on how much we’d truly experienced. From the serene beauty of the Croatian coastline to the historic streets of Hvar, we felt incredibly fortunate to have explored such a beautiful country in the comfort of Jerry. The ability to move freely from one stunning location to the next, without worrying about accommodation or schedules, made our trip feel incredibly relaxed and personal.

We would love to return to Slovenia someday to continue exploring and do some hiking, but for now, we’re grateful for the incredible memories we made during this road trip.
